To those hardy time trialers who were thinking of coming along to Molonglo Reach this evening - there will be no time-keepers nor coaching this evening. Paddling in the river is not recommended as it will be full of rubbish, washed down in this heavy rain.
A 5-week program to introduce beginner and novice paddlers to club paddling: for racing and fitness. To see paddling as a sport with health and strength benefits. Participants must be club members and have attended at least an Induction.
Course will commence Saturday 30th December and run till Saturday 27th January.
Participants are expected to be committed to the program and the first 2 Saturdays are compulsory. Sessions will run from 9 a.m. till 11 a.m. on Saturdays, followed by morning tea; and Thursday evenings from 6 - 7 p.m. It is preferable that you attend all sessions as the program builds skills progressively.

If you’re new to paddling the Burley Griffin Canoe Club holds several 'Taste of Paddling' sessions, for non-members who would like to try it out. Bookings are essential and sessions cost $120pp. Contact Patricia for more information.

Participants will be able to try out a variety of boats, learn about equipment, boat handling, entry and exit techniques, basic paddling techniques and basic capsize procedures. Participants are expected to be able to swim 50m. The sessions are held on the Molonglo River in calm conditions close to shore.
Over Easter, 2024, Burley Griffin Canoe Club will host the 2024 Paddle Australia Canoe Polo National Championships at Molonglo Reach, ACT.
In 2023, ACT were crowned double National Champions for the first time, winning the Open and Open Women’s categories at the Paddle Australia National Championships. NSW and ACT have a long history of players in the Men’s and Women’s National Squads and clubs in the region host several annual regional and national events, including:
- The Mudcake Challenge, March, Nowra
- The Nambucca Header, June Long Weekend, Nambucca Heads
- Summer Series events in Canberra and Sydney over the domestic season.
